Syed Ali Shah Geelani ((ウルドゥー語: سید علی شاہ گیلانی); born 29 September 1929) is a separatist Hurriyat leader from Jammu and Kashmir.〔http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Syed-Ali-Shah-Geelani-emerging-as-most-powerful-separatist-in-Kashmir/articleshow/46909150.cms〕 He was previously a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir but later on founded his own party by the name of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. He has served as the chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, a conglomerate of separatist parties in Jammu and Kashmir. He was an MLA from the Sopore constituency of Jammu and Kashmir three times(1972,1977,1987).〔(Sitting and previous MLAs from Sopore Assembly Constituency )〕 Masarat Alam is expected to be the successor to Geelani.
==Early life==
Geelani born in a town near Bandipora, North Kashmir, on 29 September 1929. He was educated at Sopore, and finished his studies at the Oriental College, Lahore (in present-day Pakistan).
